Set up early
Many times people don’t even know about your workshop until they walk by and see examples and displays. Since you are not actually in the middle of the workshop you have time to talk to passers by about what you are offering. Curiosity and intrigue will bring many unregistered participants on the day of the event!
Set Expectations
Let participants know what you are going to be creating and that you are willing to help as little or as much as they want. Some people just need the supplies and they do not need or want your guidance. Some people love the idea of a workshop but don’t have the vision and will rely on you to hold their hand throughout the workshop. Letting participants know these expectations up front, allows for just the right amount of hands on, or hands off participation each individual wants.
Bring Enough Supplies!
Always bring more supplies than you think you need! If you were successful in bringing on additional participants by setting up early, you want to be able for them to feel 100% a part of the experience. Having more than enough supplies on hand at the time of your workshop can double, even triple your participants and your revenue! Having ample supplies on hand means you are never turning away business!
Walk the crowd
Walk around the workshop and talk to the participants! Encourage them! Use motivational comments such as, “Your use of colors here is really inspirational” or “Wow! You really have a creative imagination!” or “I thought I was here to give you ideas but it turns out YOU are inspiring me!” Ask permission to take photos of their work so you can post them on social media. This is extremely flattering to the participants and great marketing for you!
Give more than expected
There are so many ways you can ‘Add a little extra’ to a workshop without breaking your bank. Sending workshop participants home with more than was advertised is an extremely effective way to get word of mouth advertising!
Get quotes and photos and post on Social Media
As you are walking through and encouraging your participants, you will undoubtedly hear comments such as “This is so much fun!” If you overhear a comment like this, simply ask the participant if you can take a photo of them and their project and can you include their comment in your social media. I have NEVER had anyone turn me down and it is very easy to collect 10+ quotes in 1 workshop for advertising and marketing!
